My Grandfather has gone to be with Almighty God. It is an immutable loss for our family and a great blow for me. My grandfather was one of the most noble, kind, gentle, intelligent and open-minded gentlemen I've ever had the privledge to know, let alone be related to. He worked as a minister and as a teacher in China and India, and then was a minister for the Presbyterian Church. Besides being a devout Christian, he was a spiritualist whom believed in the potential good of every person and that each faith had inherent good in it. He recognized the goodness of faith in Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews and his fellow Christians. He raised three children and maintained good relationships with his ex-wife, my grandmother, when she came out of the closet. He set aside parts of the Bible for me to learn, the contractions, so that I would never become a fundamentalist. He also made great sacrifices so that I could attend college. I don't know how I'll ever repay that. Though you have gone to be with God, still, we cannot help but lament your loss.
He died unexpectedly, but peacefully. He had hoped to go home today, but he was found in his hospital room, drifted off to sleep for the final time, peaceful, quiet, with his mind and much of his body still intact. I only wish I'd been given more time to know you. my fondest wish was to present you with your first great-grandchild, that you would perform the wedding ceremony, like you did for mom and dad.
But We will remember your distinctive chuckle, your great sense of tolerance for a young boy whom had not yet adjusted to the world around him.
Thank you, Grandpa.
I pray that we will someday meet again.
